The role of industrial polyacrylamide in oil extraction

The properties of industrial polyacrylamide for thickening, flocculation and rheological regulation of fluids make it play an important role in oil production. It is widely used in drilling, water plugging, acidizing water, fracturing, well washing, well completion, drag reduction, anti-scale and oil displacement.

In general, the use of polyacrylamide is to improve the recovery rate of oil. In particular, many oil fields have entered the secondary and tertiary production, the depth of the reservoir is generally more than 1000m, and some of the depth of the reservoir is up to 7000m. The heterogeneity of the formation and offshore oil fields have put forward more stringent conditions for oil recovery operations.

Among them, the deep oil production and offshore oil production correspondingly also put forward new requirements for PAM, requiring it to resist shear, high temperature (above 100 ° C to 200 ° C), calcium ion, magnesium ion resistance, seawater degradation resistance, since the 1980s, Great progress has been made in the basic research, preparation, application research and variety development of PAM suitable for oil recovery abroad.

Industrial polyacrylamide is used as drilling fluid adjuster and fracturing fluid additive:

Partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM), which is derived from the hydrolysis of polyacrylamide, is often used as a drilling fluid modifier. Its role is to regulate the rheology of drilling fluid, carry cuttings, lubricate the drill bit, reduce fluid loss, etc. The drilling fluid modulated with polyacrylamide has low specific gravity, which can reduce the pressure and blockage on the oil and gas reservoir, easy to find the oil and gas reservoir, and is conducive to drilling, drilling speed is 19% higher than the conventional drilling fluid, and about 45% higher than the mechanical drilling rate.

In addition, it can significantly reduce stuck drilling accidents, reduce equipment wear, and prevent losses and collapses. Fracturing technology is an important stimulation measure for developing tight beds in oil fields. Polyacrylamide crosslinked fracturing fluid is widely used because of its high viscosity, low friction, good suspended sand capacity, little filtration, good viscosity stability, little residue, wide supply, convenient preparation and low cost.

In fracturing and acidizing treatment, polyacrylamide is prepared into an aqueous solution with a concentration of 0.01% to 4% and pumped into the underground formation to fracture the formation. The industrial polyacrylamide solution has the function of thickening and carrying sand and reducing the loss of fracturing fluid. In addition, polyacrylamide has the effect of reducing resistance, so that the pressure transfer loss can be reduced.
